SCP Responds to Calls for Traffic Control

On Tuesday June 29, 2010 Stonehaven Community Patrol Officer Brian Lutes responded to numerous calls from Stonehaven Residents requesting help with traffic control issues resulting from the closure of the railroad tracks on Rama Road between the neighborhoods of Rama Woods and McClintock Woods.
Officer Lutes responded to the intersection of Rama Rd. & Charring Place at the entrance to Rama Woods and provided driving directions that didn’t require drivers to go through Stonehaven to get to Monroe Rd., Independence Blvd., and beyond from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.
The closing of the railroad tracks by CSX resulted in many drivers unfamiliar with area roads traveling Stonehaven’s neighborhood streets in an effort to find an alternate route to their destination as CSX failed to post even one “detour” sign.
Lutes was able to get CSX to send a traffic control technician to the scene who reported that they erected signs as instructed by the Charlotte Dept. of Transportation (C-DOT).
Lutes’ calls to the C-DOT representative that instructed the erection of the inadequate signs have not been returned, but Lutes was able to contact Charlotte City Councilman Andy Dulin who answered Stonehaven’s request for help despite being on vacation with his family.
Councilman Dulin apologized for the inconvenience to our neighborhood and said he would call the C-DOT in an effort to rectify the situation and request that detour signs be erected.
In addition, Lutes was successful in getting an Officer from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept. (CMPD) to respond to the scene so they could see first-hand the issue with the traffic situation and requested that the CMPD add extra patrols to Stonehaven while the tracks are closed in an effort to monitor the added traffic in the neighborhood.
