A fast-acting victim and an off-duty officer led to the arrest of a man accused in a gunpoint robbery in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood neighborhood.
Around 11:30 Thursday night, June 5, 2014 police say the victim had just left a grocery store near the intersection of Commonwealth and Thomas Avenues when Robert Jay Harris, 20, opened up the passenger door of the victim’s car and demanded property at gunpoint.

Harris, police say, fled towards Central Avenue.
The victim flagged down an off-duty officer, who quickly communicated a description of the suspect to on duty officers in the area.
A nearby patrol car spotted a man who matched the description a short time later behind a building on Central Avenue. The victim positively identified Harris as the suspect.
Harris is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm, as police determined the gun used in the robbery had been reported stolen in late-May.
