CMPD Officer Alerts Sleeping Residents to House Fire on April 10, 2014

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer is being hailed a hero for noticing smoke coming from a home and awakened two residents from inside the burning home.

Thursday night, April 10, 2014, around 10:45, Eastway Division Officer Richard Vivas was on routine patrol in the 2300 block of Kilborne Drive when he spotted smoke coming from a residence.

Officer Vargas alerted the two occupants of the burning home, who had both been sleeping, and escorted them to safety.

The Charlotte Fire Department was called out and quickly doused the flames.

No injuries were reported, and foul play is not suspected.
