2 Charged in Murder of Man Whose Body was Found on Charlotte Road in March 2014

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Friday that a man found dead on a roadway in west Charlotte last month was murdered in Gaston County then dumped.

Police say their investigation thus far revealed Brian Dale Jones, 41, was murdered somewhere in Gaston County and dropped off in the 8900 block of Old Dowd Road late one Sunday night in late March.

Gaston County Police determined Jones was killed in the 200 block of Green Chapman Road.

Gaston County Police arrested two people in connection with Jones’ murder on Friday: 49-year-old Avery Joe Lail and 56-year-old Delia Aldridge Rick.

Lail is charged with first-degree murder; Rick is charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

An officer was conducting routine patrol of the area when he discovered Jones laying in Old Dowd Road suffering from apparent trauma.

The officer immediately called for Medic to respond to the scene. Jones was pronounced dead on scene a short time later by Medic.

The investigation of this case is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

Lail is held in the Gaston County Jail without bond; Rick is held with a $100,00 bond.
