Tips Lead to Arrest of Man in Broad Daylight Robbery of Monroe Rd. Children’s Clothing Store on March 22, 2014

From The Charlotte Observer by Steve lyttle, March 26, 2014

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say two alert people – a neighbor and an off-duty officer – were key to making an arrest in connection with an armed robbery of a children’s clothing store Saturday, March 22, 2014.

Investigators said Jerell Parish Banks, 20, was taken into custody this week. He is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The charges stem from the robbery around noon Saturday at the Kids Co. Variety store in the 3000 block of Monroe Road.

A store clerk said a man entered the business, pulled a gun from his waistband, and demanded money.

But the man was being watched, police said. A neighbor reported seeing the man get into a car and leave the area, and a description of the vehicle was broadcast to CMPD officers. Earlier, an off-duty police officer had seen the unoccupied car idling behind the business. The officer copied down the license tag number of the vehicle.

In addition, police said they got surveillance video footage of the car in the area of the robbery. All that information, investigators said, led them to Banks.

Anyone with additional information in the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
