Cotswold Man’s Death Ruled a Homicide, Pipe Bombs Found in Home on March 18, 2014

From NBC Charlotte, March 18, 2014

The Medical Examiner has ruled the death of a man whose body was found inside his Cotswold home Tuesday morning as a homicide.

Police said they found a man, 65-year-old Alva Richard Brewer, dead inside his home after being called to the home by an acquaintance of the victim.

While conducting a routine search of the home, detectives discovered suspicious items that appeared to be homemade explosive devices.

Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.  The CMPD Bomb Squad responded to the scene and rendered the devices safe and transported them to a secure location.

Tuesday afternoon, the CMPD Bomb Squad returned to the scene after more pipe bombs were located inside the home.

NBC Charlotte’s Tony Burbeck is on the scene and reports authorities were on scene taking photos of rags found in garbage cans near the home.

Detectives have canvassed the neighborhood to determine whether there were any witnesses to this incident. They say they’re still gathering details to the death and devices found inside the home.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.
