A triple murder trial will continue this week in Charlotte.

Investigators say Justin Hurd killed his victims in 2008 and set their house on fire. Friends and family members of the victims told Channel 9 they’re surprised it took so long to bring this case to trial.

This week we should learn more about the prosecution’s case against Hurd. They believe he murdered Kinshasa Wagstaff, her boyfriend, Kevin Young and her niece, Jasmine Hines in February 2008.

Authorities say Hurd then set their house on fire and fled back to his home in Ohio.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives contacted America’s Most Wanted to help them solve the case and nearly a year after the crime Hurd was captured in Ohio, brought back to Charlotte and then charged with murder.

Friends of the victims say they’re relieved the case is moving forward.

“Even though it has taken this long, at least there’s something being done,” says Vinroy Reid.

Jury selection will continue Monday.

Hurd faces the death penalty if convicted.
