The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted for a pair of armed robberies in West Charlotte.

Detectives with the CMPD Armed Robbery say 21-year-old Gerico Dontae Alexander is armed and dangerous.

The robberies happened nearly three months ago, but Sandra Griffin says many in the neighborhood are still on edge.

“He’s around here somewhere, somebody has got to find him. I’m just praying for them to catch him,” she said.

Griffin works nearby, and knows the suspect and the victim.

In early November, officers responded to a call at a convenience store on Little Rock Road.

The 35-year-old victim suffered from several gun shots wounds, but told officers Alexander entered the store and demanded money.

During the argument, he says Alexander shot him –then took money from the business and fled on foot.

A family member tells NBC Charlotte, he is frustrated that Alexander has not been arrested after all this time.

“It was a miracle to see him after seven shots, standing upright and walking,” said Griffin.

Griffin describes the shooting as a betrayal of trust, saying the victim cared for Alexander like a member of the family.

“He’s got to need help if you come at somebody that basically raised you. He can’t be sleeping at night. His conscience must be tearing him up,” she said.

Alexander is wanted in a separate robbery at the Circle K Store across the street. The robbery happened several days prior to the shooting.

Police say, Alexander locked several employees in the back storage room of the store before fleeing.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. Alexander, should immediately contact the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) at (704) 336-VCAT or call the Crime Stopper’s tip-line at 704-334-1600.
