Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a string of robberies on Sardis Road North.
Three robberies happened this week, all within a block of each other. A Cookout restaurant (pictured above) and a BB&T branch on Sardis Road North were hit, along with a GameStop on Galleria Boulevard.
“Anytime we see a string of robberies, several robberies within a week, it’s always a concern for us,” said Lt. Dave Cristy with CMPD’s Independence division.
It’s also a concern for people who in the area and frequently shop where these crimes happened.
“Wow,” said Rodrick Liggett of Matthews. “That’s something I wasn’t aware of. That’s crazy. We live like five minutes away. We come here all the time.”
Liggett and his family were headed into the GameStop that was robbed earlier this week.
Police arrested 30-year-old Stanley Mitchell in connection to that robbery but are still looking for suspects in the other two crimes.
“Based on the information and facts we have in these cases, it looks like all three are unrelated at this point,” Cristy said.
CMPD has increased patrols in the area. Even though these robbers are targeting businesses and not individuals, police encourage people to be cautious and to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
Officers are working to track down these suspects and prevent another robbery.
“We can’t sit back and wait for next week,” Cristy said. “We have to respond to it.”
