Man Charged in December 10, 2013 East Charlotte Bank Robbery

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested  a man who tried to rob an East Charlotte bank last month.

Police said Cephas L. Williams, Jr. entered the State Employees Credit Union on North Wendover Road on December 10 and handed a note to the teller demanding money. He then fled the bank before receiving any money.

On Monday, a Crime Stoppers tip was received on information leading them to identify Williams as the suspect in the attempted robbery.  Detectives also learned that Williams had several outstanding warrants out of Gaston County.

On Tuesday, the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested Williams for the outstanding warrants on Lockmont Drive and transported him to police headquarters to be interviewed.

Williams was then interviewed by detectives where he admitted to attempting to rob the State Employees Credit Union.  He was charged with attempted common law robbery and transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office where he is currently in custody.
