Federal Fugitive Caught in Charlotte Chase That Led to Mecklenburg Deputy Crashing Patrol Car

A desperate search for a fugitive spanned several Charlotte city blocks Thursday afternoon.

One Mecklenburg County Deputy crashed into a tractor-trailer on Statesville Road trying to catch the suspect.

Police and U.S. marshals started searching for the fugitive near an apartment complex off Cedarhurst Drive.

They said the man had multiple outstanding federal warrants.

They tried to stop him at a traffic stop, but he took off.

The Deputy chased the man but crashed into a tractor-trailer near Statesville and Tipton roads.

Mecklenburg Deputies could be seen with guns drawn searching for someone in north Charlotte Thursday afternoon.The chase went into a neighborhood where the fugitive ran into a home and stayed for more than an hour.

Police surrounded the home with guns drawn.

A woman who told Channel 9 she was the suspect’s girlfriend said she helped talk him out of the house.

“He don’t know what’s going on, but there’s a million police out here, and he was scared they were going to hurt him,” she said.

One of the warrants was for a weapons charge.

Channel 9 is working to find out more on the fugitive.
