Witness Helps CMPD Arrest 2 in West Charlotte Burglary

From The Charlotte Observer By Steve Lyttle, November 20, 2013

Police say a witness helped lead officers to a pair of men suspected of trying to burglarize a west Charlotte home Tuesday evening.

The resident of the house, who was home when the two men broke in, police say, came upon the suspects by surprise.

Charged in the case were Robert Alexander, 25, and Tajarvis Wall, 23. Each was jailed on charges of first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, and resisting, obstructing and delaying.

Wall has been arrested more than a dozen times in the past three years, according to Mecklenburg County jail records.

According to police, a witness called CMPD about 6:30 p.m. and said he saw two people break into the rear of a home in the 6300 block of Summerour Place. That is off Toddville Road.

The resident heard the noise and came downstairs, only to come face to face with the two men. Police say the two suspects fled, but armed with a description of the men and their getaway vehicle, police set up a perimeter and arrested the men a short time later.

Police say they later determined that the suspects’ vehicle had been reported stolen earlier Tuesday in southeast Charlotte.

Jail records show Wall has numerous arrests, including two in a six-day period last month. Most of his arrests have been for breaking and entering and larceny.

Alexander has been arrested three times in recent years, according to jail records.
