From By John Cominsky, November 19, 2013

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have arrested a man they say burglarized a home and stole the homeowner’s vehicle, all while the homeowner was dead inside the house.

On Saturday, November 16, just before 11:30 p.m., Officers responded to the 2200 block of Jennie Linn Drive after someone called 911 and said they saw several men exit a neighboring home and leave in the homeowner’s vehicle.

Once at the home, the officers found the homeowner deceased inside from what appeared to be natural causes. The home, detectives said, had been burglarized.

Homicide/ADW Unit Detectives and Crime Scene Search responded to the home to conduct an investigation, and a broadcast was issued for the stolen vehicle.

On Sunday, November 17, officers located the stolen vehicle on the 500 block of Blendwood Drive in northeast Charlotte. The two people in the vehicle were taken to police headquarters where they were interviewed by Homicide/ADW Detectives.

At the conclusion of the interview, Detectives charged 20-year-old Pressley Davis, Jr., with second degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and six counts of larceny of a firearm.

Police said Davis admitted to targeting the victim’s house because the roll out trash can was still on the curb several days after collection, as well as the mailbox being stuffed with mail.

Detectives said that the second person was not involved in any criminal activity, and will not be charged in this case.

After consulting with the Medical Examiner’s Office, detectives confirmed that the victim died of natural causes before Davis broke into the home.
