The cleanup continues at an East Charlotte condo complex after a investigators said someone intentionally set at the Devonshire Condominiums on Sunday morning.
Wayne Harris lived there for 11 years. His unit and nearly everything he owned were destroyed.
Channel 9 watched crews Thursday going in and out of the charred units trying to salvage what they could.
“It’s terrible, I wish it had never happened. All I can keep doing is keep praying, stay in prayer that’s about it,” Harris said.
Sunday morning more than 60 firefighters battled flames and smoke so intense one woman jumped from a second story window to escape.
Neighbor Deborah Davis and her husband woke up to the fire and rushed over to help in any way they could.
“It’s terrible,” she said. “I had to come out here and give people coats and [let them] use the telephone.”
Fire investigators have not revealed how or where the fire was started but they are asking the public for tips as they work with police to determine who is responsible.
Harris said, “All we can do is keep piecing everything back together and wait on them to rebuild.”
The fire caused more than $300,000 in damage. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
