Three Shot, One Killed in East Charlotte Domestic Dispute

From The Charlotte Observer by Joe Marusak, October 4, 2013

One person is dead and two are hospitalized after a shooting early Friday on Filbert Lane, off Harrisburg Road and Interstate 485.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are searching for a person they’ve identified as a suspect in the shootings.

At 1:38 a.m., Hickory Grove Division patrol officers responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 8400 block of Filbert Lane and found three people with gunshot wounds.

Detectives said the shootings appear to have stemmed from a domestic dispute.

All three victims were transported by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center. One victim died at the hospital. The other victims are in serious condition, police said.

The deceased victim’s identity will be released after family members are notified, police said.

“Detectives are actively looking for the known suspect,” Officer Keith Trietley said at 4:30 a.m. “This does not appear to be a random act of violence.”

Homicide detectives were canvassing the neighborhood to determine whether anyone witnessed the shooting, Trietley said. He said the investigation is in its early stages.

Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team and the Real Time Crime Center also responded to the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS (8477) and speak with to a homicide detective or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
