CMPD officer rescues owl hit by car

The department says Officer Amy Baswell noticed the bird in the road near the intersection of East 7th and Hawthorne in early June.

She called the Animal Care and Control Unit to assist her and says several hawks tried to dive bomb the bird as she waited.

Animal Control officers took the owl to the Raptor Center, where it spent the last couple of months recovering from fractured bones and head and eye trauma, likely because it was hit by a car.

The owl finished its rehabilitation Tuesday. The Raptor Center allowed Officer Baswell to release the bird, named Hawthorne, back into the wild.
