Charlotte Teen Shot While Committing Home Invasion Dies

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating after a teenager was shot and killed following a home invasion in northeast Charlotte Thursday.

The shooting happened on the 2300 block of Century Oaks Drive just after 6:30 p.m.

Officers determined that two suspects kicked in the back door to the residence, and the resident shot one suspect.

The suspect that was shot, 17-year-old Jamal Antonio Haynes, was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life threatening injuries. He later died.

Officials said Haynes was a senior at Vance High School.

The second suspect fled the scene on foot.

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide/ADW Unit Detective.
