Heightened Security ‘New Normal’ at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

by ANN SHERIDAN / NBC Charlotte, August 22, 2013

It will be a “new normal” when students return to school next week.

All Charlotte-Mecklenburg School students will be required to wear identification badges. Teachers and administrators will have them, too.

It’s a safety measure the district has put in place in light of the recent school violence around the country.

“We’ve always thought that our kids were safe at home and at school, and we’ve seen over the years that that might not be always the case, so we welcome the changes and we look forward to it,” said Interim CMS Chief of Police Randy Hagler.

The new badge system and new security cameras are all part of a $19 million plan approved by county commissioners to enhance security CMS schools.
