Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are looking for a man they say is armed and dangerous.

Part of a northeast Charlotte street was placed on lockdown for several hours Tuesday as CMPD and SWAT officers tried to locate the suspect they say shot at one of his relatives during an argument.

At this hour, police are still searching for 35-year-old Keith Caldwell after the nearly three-hour long standoff.

Charlotte police search for armed suspect following shooting

SWAT and CMPD officers were called to the 1800 block of Finchley Drive in Charlotte around 2:30 p.m. Monday after they got a call of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers believed after shooting at his relative during that dispute, Caldwell had fled to his home and barricaded himself inside. Police and SWAT established a perimeter around the entire area surrounding the house.

A CATS bus was brought in to provide area residents shelter and air conditioning while the standoff was under way.

About three hours after they were first called, officers made their way into Caldwell’s home and searched it, but discovered Caldwell was not inside.

After officers realized Caldwell wasn’t in the house, they searched the surrounding area with a K-9 but they still have not been able to locate the suspect.

“We were told he was inside the house still. When he didn’t come out we tried to contact him by phone, intercom, wouldn’t come out so SWAT was contacted did a through search of the house and he wasn’t in the house,” said Lt. Ken Schul of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
