CMPD: Two Ballantyne Armed Robberies Connected

From The Charlotte Observer by Dan Burley, July 30, 2013

CMPD Officers believe two armed robberies Monday morning in Ballantyne are connected.

The first armed robbery took place outside the Yellow Rose at Touchstone bar around 1 a.m., according to a Charlotte Mecklenburg police report.

Three men in their twenties were walking in the parking lot when they were approached by two males. One of them was armed with a shotgun.

The suspects physically assaulted one victim. The two suspects then stole the wallets and phones of the other victims, the report said. One suspect fired a shot and then the two left the scene in a red compact car.

A little more than an hour later, a 22-year-old female was approached by two suspects as she was getting out of her car on the 10000 block of Salvia Street, less than 5 miles from the first robbery. She gave the suspects her purse and was not hurt, police said. The suspects fled in a red compact car.

The investigation is continuing, CMPD Captain Rich Austin said Tuesday night.
