From The Charlotte Observer by Steve Lyttle, June 4, 2013

A Charlotte man was sentenced Tuesday to between 85 years and 106 years in prison in connection with the November 2010 robberies and shootings at a Monroe DMV office.

The shootings left one victim with injuries that have required a number of surgeries over the past 2 1/2 years.

A jury in Union County convicted Melvin Lee Luckey on Monday on two counts each of attempted murder; robbery with a dangerous weapon; conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon; and possession of a firearm by a felon. He also was convicted on one count of larceny of a firearm. Luckey was sentenced Tuesday.

Luckey was accused in the Nov. 1, 2010, robbery at the DMV office on East Roosevelt Boulevard. During that crime, investigators say, DMV employee Crystal Jordan and her husband, Robbie, were shot.

Robbie Jordan was hospitalized one day with his injuries, but his wife had a lengthy recovery and was still undergoing surgeries earlier this year.

Another Charlotte man, Otis Howie, was convicted last October for his involvement in the robberies and shootings. He was sentenced to between 72 years and 90 years in prison.
