Woman Assaulted at Freedom Park

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said an assault occurred at Freedom Park Tuesday morning.

A woman was assaulted near the tennis courts, officials said.

A police helicopter was called in to search for the attacker.

Police are still investigating, but have not said if they have anyone in custody.

The Charlotte Nature Museum issued a statement regarding the attack. “Emergency services were observed in Charlotte Nature Museum’s parking lot this morning by museum staff assisting a woman. Visitors and staff safety was not compromised. However, as a safety precaution the outdoor exhibit Fort Wild was temporarily closed,” the statement read.

No other details were released by police.
