N.C. ‘Kilah’s Law’ One Step Closer to being on the Books

A move to create tougher punishment for people who abuse children is one step closer to becoming a law.

“Kilah’s Law” has passed a North Carolina Senate Committee, and now heads to the full senate.

The house already approved it.

The bill is named for a local 4-year-old girl named Kilah Davenport.

A year ago, police say her stepfather beat her so badly she suffered severe brain damage.

The law would double or triple the current penalties for felony child abuse.
