From The Charlotte Observer By Steve Lyttle, April 3, 2013

Police say a Crime Stoppers tip has helped detectives make an arrest in a southwest Charlotte bank robbery from nearly a year ago.

James Mitchell McConnell, 46, was charged this week with the April 11, 2012, robbery of the BB&T Bank branch in the 9200 block of South Tryon Street.

McConnell already was jailed in Gaston County and was interviewed by a detective this week. Police say McConnell confessed to the crime.

Witnesses said a man entered the bank that day about 2:45 p.m. and demanded money at gunpoint before running off. Police say McConnell was charged with armed robbery.

Anyone with additional information in this case, or about McConnell, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
