Mecklenburg DA Report Says CMPD Officer Justified in Shooting Man Who Charged Him with Box Cutter

From News 14 Carolina, January 29, 2013

The district attorney says a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was justified in using deadly force in an officer-involved shooting earlier this month.

Fifty-five-year old Spencer Mims was shot Jan. 6 in south Charlotte after refusing to drop a box cutter he was holding to his own throat and charging at two officers.

Officer Michael Whitlock tried to use a Taser gun to stop Mims but the DA’s reports says only one prong hit him and he continued toward the officers. Officer Jeremy Donaldson then fired his weapon at Mims.

Both officers were on administrative leave during the investigation.
