SCP Responds to Possible Burglary in Progress Call

Stonehaven Community Patrol Officer Brian Lutes responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress call in the 7100 block of Thermal Road in Stonehaven at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2010.

A Thermal Road resident reported that he didn’t think his neighbor was home and that there was a car he had never seen before parked in front of the neighbor’s house. The man expressed concern that his neighbor’s home was being burglarized.

Lutes, who was conducting a daylight patrol following participation in the Carolinas Freedom Foundation Veteran’s Parade, arrived at the reported location just 2 minutes after receiving the call and discovered an older model rusty Oldsmobile sedan parked on the street in front of the home in question.

After trying and failing to ascertain the identity of the resident of the home suspected of being burglarized from neighbors, Lutes checked the home for signs of a burglary and encountered the owner of the home who willingly provided identification verifying that he lived in the home.

The home owner said the car in question parked in front of his home belonged to a family member who had helped conduct a yard sale earlier in the day and expressed thanks for the response to check his home for a possible burglary.

Anyone observing a suspicious vehicle in the Greater Stonehaven Area, especially if parked in front of a home, should notify the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept. via 911 and then call the Stonehaven Patrol at 980-297-8446 so the situation can be investigated as quickly as possible.
