CHARLOTTE, N.C.— Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they’re looking into the possibility that three early morning armed robberies in south Charlotte are connected.

Police say three men robbed three Taco Bell employees at gunpoint Tuesday morning. It happened around 12:15 a.m. at the restaurant on Woodlawn Road near Montford Drive.

Police say three female employees were locking up for the night when three masked men approached them and forced them back into the restaurant. When the women couldn’t open the safe, the suspects took their purses and fled the scene in what was described as a red minivan, officers say.

 The employees were not injured.

Police are trying to determine if the incident is connected to two other early morning robberies.

The Harris Teeter on Rea Road at Ardrey Kell was robbed around 4 a.m.

About an hour later the Circle K on Selwyn Avenue was robbed. Police say a clerk at Circle K was assaulted.  She was taken to the hospital and will be okay.

Police say there were three suspects wearing masks in each of the robberies.

Passer-by Alerts Residents to South Park Fire; Dog Saved

01/01/2010 10:34 AM By Aundrea Cline-Thomas @ www.news14.com

CHARLOTTE – Firefighters spent Friday morning battling a fire that broke out at a home near Southpark.

No one was home at the time, but a dog was trapped inside. He was later rescued.

Neighbors are thanking a woman who saw the fire on Sharon View Road on the way to work. She knocked on neighbor’s doors, telling them to get out of the house.

When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out of the roof of the house.

The dog, which was trapped in a screened in porch in the home, suffered burns but was taken to the vet for medical attention. A neighbor had to call the homeowner, who wasn’t home at the time, to relay the bad news.

Fire officials say it’s too early to determine the cause of the fire.
