CMPD Kidnapping Call Has Happy Ending

From CMPD via

Shortly after 9:00 a.m. this morning, Tuesday November 18, 2009, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department received a call for service in reference to a possible kidnapping that took place at the intersection of Sharon Rd and Fairview Rd. A citizen called 911 and reported witnessing a black male suspect trying the door handle of the vehicle and ultimately getting into the passenger side of the car with the possible victim.  The vehicle made an abrupt right turn onto Fairview Rd heading towards Providence Rd.

The possible victim is an older white female, with white hair, last seen wearing a white sweater. The vehicle is a newer model beige or champagne Toyota Camry. Please review the attachment which is similar in style.

The suspect is described as a black male, in his 30’s-40’s, tall and thin, wearing a green colored jacket, baggy beige pants, and a black toboggan.

Anyone with any and all information fitting this description or in the area this morning is asked to call 911 immediately.

As of 4:00 p.m. today, detectives are continuing to investigate this call for service; however we have not been able to confirm any of the preliminary information at this time.  At this point, we have been unable to corroborate this report through any other means that a crime has occurred. Procedures are in place to ensure that any 911 caller reporting a missing person fitting this description will be routed to a detective. We continue to ask the public to call 911 if they have any information pertaining to this event.

Shortly after 4:00 p.m., Charlotte Mecklenburg Police officers from the Providence Division received a call for service in reference to a female fitting the description that returned to the original location. After further investigation, they are acquaintances that have known each other and have been in an employer/employee relationship for several years.  Although today’s events proved to be non criminal, it is the responsibility of CMPD to investigate all information provided by independent witnesses. We wish to thank the community and local media outlets for aiding CMPD during this investigation.  Thankfully, we were able to investigate all leads and come to a safe resolution.
